At Matthew Arnold we aim for all pupils, irrespective of any special educational need or disability, to achieve their academic potential and progress confidently into the next phase of their education, it is also part of our vision that all children are filled with positive experiences, feel happy and valued and develop a sense of friendship, tolerance and understanding.
Liverpool Children and Young People’s Services provide additional resourced facilities at Matthew Arnold to meet the needs of pupils with severe and specific speech, language and communication needs. The emphasis of the provision for primary pupils is to ensure early identification and intervention. This is achieved through a system of joint clinics involving a range of professionals.
The Language Resource Base is a LEA provision and children are allocated places via an LEA assessment process.
Children requiring intensive intervention are identified early and allocated part time appropriate provision within the range of schools available. The resourced provision offers specially trained and qualified teachers and regular access to Speech and Language Therapists. Each child has an individually tailored programme of support and curriculum work with speech and language targets that are differentiated and modified to match the pupil’s needs.
