Description

When children register at Little Seedlings Day Nursery parents complete an ‘All About Me’ form and the Manager discusses the child with the parents regarding any potential needs. If there are any needs identified or delay in any areas of learning is highlighted then this information is used to plan the next steps for your child. If your child has come from another setting we contact the setting or relevant agencies who may have had contact with your child in order for us to gain a clearer picture of your child’s needs and what has been done for your child. We then work very closely with parents and other agencies to offer the best support that we can in the best interest of your child.

We follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) Framework which identifies seven areas of learning consisting of: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Communication and Language; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; and Expressive Arts and Design. We carefully monitor each child’s development in all of the seven areas using the framework but give priority to the Prime Areas of Learning: Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; and Physical Development. If we assess a child is not meeting identified ‘checkpoints’ in any of the prime areas this would be discussed at our regular progress meetings and with parents. Further support may be accessed in order to ensure we offer the best support we can.

We have a trained SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator) who, as a qualified EYS and Primary School teacher, has experience working with children with special educational needs. She has recently completed the Level 3 SENDCO Award further developing her knowledge and skills of supporting children with SEND. Our SENDCO continually supports all staff regarding the needs of children.

The staff use the information gained to plan for your child’s next steps and at times a Play Plan may be needed to tailor for the needs. This will be devised by your child’s Key Worker supported by our SENDCO. Practitioners will allocate one to one time or work in a smaller group to ensure your child is getting quality time with them.  Observations are done about your child’s interests and how your child engages with his/her environment, peers, adults and resources which help to form how the practitioner can best engage with your child.  Your child’s Key Worker will always make themselves available if you have any concerns or worries.

The setting is organised by chronological age, the staff adapt planning according to your child’s individual needs and at your child’s own pace. A Play Plan, which is an individualised plan, may be used to ensure your child receives the support they require.

The setting is wheelchair accessible. We have staff who speak many languages needed for the EAL children. The nursery has an open door policy and we are more than happy to discuss your child’s individual needs and to make reasonable adjustments if necessary.

Our Nursery Manger attends an annual transition meeting that is also attended by teachers from schools, from the Liverpool area. We start preparing the children about their ‘big school’ nearer their departure date. We structure the environment and the routines of the day to also support transition to school.

The setting is in close contact with feeder schools in the local area. We meet with staff from the school (usually the Reception Teacher and SENDCO) to ensure information regarding your child is shared fully before your child starts school. We will support the transition process in any way we can in order to minimise any anxiety or concern.

The nursery uses an online tool called ‘Tapestry’ where observations of your child are shared with you and things your child does at home can also be shared with us. We meet with parents when any documentation eg play plans, are reviewed to ensure parents are kept fully up to date.

Throughout the year we aim to organise events e.g. ‘Stay and Play’ days to give parents an understanding of how children engage in play and how to support this engagement. Parents are also invited to Parent Evenings to discuss children’s progress and a written report is provided in the summer term. This report is also shared with your child’s school.
