Knotty Ash Primary School, Nursery and Deaf Resource Base

Knotty Ash Primary is a resourced schools for pupils with profound hearing impairment who require sign support to access the curriculum. The two schools have received both regional and national recognition of the work they undertake and good OFSTED inspections. The resourced provision in each of the schools is co-ordinated by a fully trained specialist teacher of the deaf and includes specialist teaching staff, support assistants and external support from the Local Authority sensory support service, educational psychologists and specialist medical services.

Pupils access the full subject range of the National Curriculum with sign support and the appropriate individual modifications and differentiation based on the individual pupil’s needs. Regular reviews each term evaluate the pupil’s progress and agree new strategies and targets which are included in an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

A key facet of the resourced provision for pupils with hearing impairments is to enable pupils access specialist support and the curriculum they need whilst being a valued and active member of the mainstream school community.
