The Beacon Project
A 1 day a week 6 week development programme for primary age pupils
Subject to funding secured to run programme, schools will be selected by our funder to take part (maximum of 12 pupils/must all attend same school)
Pupils must meet funding criteria - e.g. Young people with ACE's, young people exposed to trauma, young carers, looked after, young people with disabilities, young people from ethnic minority groups, young people transitioning to secondary school, pupils with poor school attendance
Activities include:Practical fire service activities to develop teamwork/communication/working with others skills, First Aid, Resilience, Road Safety, Healthy Relationships, Arson/Safety in the home/Fire Escape Plans/Bonfire & Fireworks, Healthy Relationships.
Children complete a weekly workbook to record what they have done on the course, how they have demonstrated resilience and what skills they have learnt.
Children take part in an end of course "Pass Out" presentation, to an invited audience (family, friends, school representatives, funders) to demonstrate the skills they have learnt over the 6 weeks and to be presented with completion certificates.
