Programme Content (ITT)
What does the Independent Travel Training programme involve?
The programme includes both practical and classroom based sessions.
These will cover various topics personalised to the needs of the trainees. This ensures they are able to learn at their own individual pace.
Examples of what the training programme includes:
- Personal & community safety
- Road safety
- One to one coaching
- Confidence building
- Walking routes
- Specific journey planning
- Understanding the environment around you
- Utilisation of timetables and visual aids
- Communicating with others
- ‘What if’ scenarios
- Seeking help from appropriate sources
- Using money
- Progress reports
Who is eligible?
The programme is open to young people up to the age of 18 years (by the 31st August) and under who are eligible for SEN Transport For young people or adults who are not eligible for the free service, there is an option to buy in the training, please click on following link ITT service leaflet
How long will the travel training take?
Travel training will take as long as is needed to train the young person so that they are safe, confident and ready to travel independently. Each trainee has their own risk assessed, detailed journey plan. This is recorded and rehearsed in a format that is congruent with their needs
